Individual Taxpayer Identification Number
An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (or ITIN) is a U.S. tax number issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status or residency, on the basis of the Internal Revenue Code. In most cases, the application (the W-7 form) must accompany a U.S. federal income tax return.
A Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) is a person who is authorized, under an agreement with the IRS, to complete and submit a W-7 form on behalf of the applicant without providing documentary proof of support to the IRS. You, the applicant, keep your passport and do not need to send it to the IRS. Instead, we, the CAA, certify that we have reviewed the documents proving your identity and alien, to the US, status based on the documentation itself.
Serge Gautron is a Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA).
